In the sales business, personality and competencies far outweigh gender. I travel frequently to China and Hong Kong for my job and have observed that more and more women are taking on management roles at our customers there. It's now half and half at some Geodis’ s sites, which is a stimulating combination. Women have a different way of looking at things. They're good at multi-tasking, which is clearly an asset in terms of managing the complex processes involved in the supply chain business.
I've been working in the logistics business since 1985. My current role involves developing our relations with markets in the Far East. I enjoy the contact with people my job entails and the challenge of having to provide personalised solutions for our customers.
The transport and logistics business is nowadays not so much about trucks, ships and aeroplanes and more about creating added value. The entire business has changed over the last 5 to 10 years from being dominated by men to being an industry that appreciates the “female touch”. And, of course, it is an exciting international environment that I think appeals to both men and women.
