Maryline Grandol

Maryline Grandol, Accounting Manager, 30 France Express, Nîmes (France)

"...routine is also something that does not exist in my line of work...."

I was recruited by France Express at the end of 1981, having just sent in an open application. There were only two women working there at the time, out of about thirty employees. In 1992, I was appointed Accounting manager in a branch where women are no longer outnumbered by men.

Women take more time to listen to customers and go into documents in more detail, while men tend to want to find instant solutions without necessarily taking the points of view of others into account. We do however complement each other in many ways.

In this kind of job, it is sometimes difficult to strike a balance between work and home. The closing of accounts has to be done on time, irrespective of anything else. It takes priority over everything!
Routine is also something that does not exist in my line of work.

Transport and logistics are thankfully no longer male-oriented sectors. Women can offer a lot to this business, which in turn offers a host of genuine opportunities to climb the professional ladder.
